FRX Corporation announced that it has applied for a new patent on polycarbonate. Both the company and customer feedback have demonstrated that this invention will be a breakthrough in an important application area. In particular, the invention meets or exceeds the mandatory flame retardant requirements of polycarbonate (PC) plastics and their composites. This invention does not contain prohibited "Permanent" PFAS chemistry, allowing for completely PFAS-free formulations in polycarbonate, including the elimination of the well-known anti-drip agent PTFE.
This is a huge breakthrough because flame-retardant PC and its compounds are widely used in everyday products, from consumer electronics to electric vehicles, to home appliances, and many industrial applications. FRX Corporation is well-positioned with its existing international client base and growing interest from other global players. In all major markets, the company does business with major producers of PC resins, as well as a number of converters specializing in PC compounds and compounds.
Many major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), such as Apple and IKEA, have pledged that their products are PFAS-free. In PC and its blends, this means replacing the well-known PFAS chemical KPFBS, the so-called Rimar salt, which FRX has demonstrated its ability to do.
In addition, major OEMs believe that the well-known anti-dripping agent PTFE should also be replaced as part of a move away from PFAS chemicals. Replacing this additive while maintaining the necessary flame-retardant properties has proven elusive until now. Now, the work carried out by FRX's technical team has proven that this difficult goal can be achieved. And importantly, it also maintains other essential properties of PC materials, such as impact resistance. The ability to achieve transparent formulations was also demonstrated.
FRX Corporation is a commercial producer of Nofia®, a green, non-leaching flame retardant additive used in a wide range of applications, including consumer applications. Many traditional flame retardant solutions are increasingly being regulated and no longer used due to unacceptable health risks to humans and animals, as well as the environment. FRX as New Legislation, Consumers, and Investors Ask OEMs to Stay Away from Toxic Chemicals Nofia® has a first-mover advantage in several markets.
