Trinseo’s Hsinchu and Zhangjiagang factories can provide evidence of sustainable ingredient commitment Trinseo’s mass balance process at its Hsinchu and Zhangjiagang plastic factories has recently received International
Sustainability & Carbon Plus certification (ISCC+).
The mass balance method tracks the bio-based raw materials used in the production of materials with sustainable advantages. At the Hsinchu plant, the final material certified as having sustainable benefits is bio-based recycled polycarbonate
(PC), thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN). At the Zhangjiagang ABS plant, certified materials are bio-based
ABS, bio-based recycled ABS and recycled ABS. Certification as required by the agreement enables Trinseo to provide customers with a sustainability statement to substantiate its commitment to sustainable ingredients.
Where sustainable and non-sustainable materials are mixed in the production process, ISCC+
The mass balance method has become the accepted standard for tracking inputs and outputs. It is a chain-of-custody approach that tracks materials with sustainable benefits through complex value chains to measure the sustainable content of finished goods. This is a scientific method applicable to many industries and widely used.
