In terms of product variety and performance, at the beginning of this century, most enterprises mainly produced two-component polyurethane waterproof coatings, and only a few enterprises such as Beijing Carlyle and Yizhong (Qingdao) produced single-component polyurethane waterproof coatings; Over the past few years, the number of companies producing single-component products has increased, and many companies can also produce single- and double-component (multi-) component polyurethane waterproof coatings according to engineering needs. In the past, most enterprises could only produce type I polyurethane waterproof coatings with low tensile properties, and few enterprises could produce type II products. Now quite a number of enterprises can produce both types of products to meet the needs of different engineering constructions.

In terms of product application, polyurethane waterproof coatings were initially only used for waterproofing of roofs, kitchens and bathrooms, etc., but have now been expanded to be used for waterproofing of underground projects, high-speed rail, urban rail transit, bridges and other projects.

In addition, after recent years of development, the environmental performance of polyurethane waterproof coatings has also been greatly improved. According to industry insiders, the polyurethane waterproof coatings produced in the early stage in my country were all tar-modified, and the production and construction process seriously endangered human health. In 1999, the state banned the production of tar-modified polyurethane waterproof coatings. In 2008, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the mandatory industry standard "Limits of Hazardous Substances in Architectural Waterproof Coatings", which improved the environmental protection performance of the products.

The improvement of product quality, the increase of product varieties of two-component polyurethane waterproof coatings, the improvement of product performance, and the expansion of product application range have made the industry standard of "polyurethane waterproof coatings" revised in 2003 more and more incompatible with the development of the situation , formulating and implementing new national standards for polyurethane waterproof coatings has become a top priority.
