PPG Industries' Protective and Marine Coatings business unit has met the growing demand for "ice-class" marine coatings for hull protection with SIGMASHIELD® 1200 coatings. The SIGMASHIELD 1200 coating developed by PPG Industries' own research equipment has exceptional wear and impact resistance and very low friction characteristics in ice.
Developed by PPG Industries for improved abrasion and impact resistance on decks and hulls, SIGMASHIELD® 1200 coating combines top-of-the-line novolac epoxy resins with carefully selected pigments to withstand icy waters. Provides extraordinary performance.
The priority of SIGMASHIELD1200 paint includes:
Outstanding impact resistance and abrasion resistance in ice; excellent cathodic protection and creep resistance, standard and low temperature type coatings help enhance curing and application in winter applications. A single coating can use guaranteed equipment, which is convenient for maintenance and repair. The coating has been certified by Lloyd's Register (location contact) as an ice class abrasion resistant coating. Aker has been certified as a low friction surface coating.
SIGMASHIELD1200 coatings are suitable for Baltic Sea and US/Canada Great Lakes and Seaway trade ships with heavy ice all over the world. Its good low coefficient of friction in ice has been certified by the Aker Arctic Technology Center. Vessels serving energy projects in the Russian Arctic can also use SIGMASHIELD coatings.
