At the national methanol vehicle pilot work symposium held in Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the phased test data of the methanol vehicle pilot, and believed that there is no major technical obstacle for methanol as an alternative fuel for vehicles.
The phased test data of the pilot show that the vehicles are running smoothly and normally, the emission data of nitrogen oxides and other compounds is 40% to 50% lower than the limit value of the National IV Standard, some indicators meet the National V Standard, and the emission of formaldehyde, an unconventional pollutant, is only 6% of the prescribed limit value, the quality of the working environment related to methanol vehicles meets the requirements of national standards, no abnormalities are found in the physical examination of alcohol-related personnel, and the fuel cost per unit mileage is 48% lower than that of gasoline vehicles with the same displacement.
The methanol vehicle "two provinces and one city" (Shanxi, Shaanxi, Shanghai) pilot project was launched in 2012. Over the past year, a total of 281 methanol vehicles have been put into pilot operation.
Su Bo, deputy secretary of the party group and vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at the meeting that from the analysis of the current pilot results, there are no major technical obstacles to methanol as an alternative fuel for vehicles, and the conventional emissions are relatively clean. It will not affect human health. In the short term, methanol as an alternative fuel for vehicles is a choice for my country to replace gasoline and diesel. In the medium and long term, methanol as an alternative fuel for vehicles has strategic significance for ensuring my country's energy security.
Su Bo said that the next stage will further promote the pilot work of methanol vehicles and improve the level of methanol vehicles and related technical products.
"Currently, the research and development of methanol vehicles, the manufacture of special parts for methanol internal combustion engines, and key technologies and products are still in the early stages of industrial development, and the technical level and product quality have yet to be further improved." Su Bo said that technological innovation should be strengthened , break through the bottleneck of the core technology and key components of the fuel supply system, solve technical problems such as high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance of key components of alternative fuel internal combustion engines, master the after-treatment technology of unconventional emissions, and improve the quality of key components such as fuel pumps and nozzles.
Su Bo said that policies will be introduced to encourage more automobile manufacturers to develop methanol engines and complete vehicles to speed up technological progress and develop more new products. At the same time, it is necessary to break through regional restrictions, give full play to the role of the market, and form an industrial development pattern with vehicle manufacturers as the leader and key component companies actively participating.
